On Sunday 20th July, our quiet field in Norfolk is transformed into a buzz of activity during our Festival of Archaeology!
The highlights of the day are our site tours of our excavations which will reveal the latest ‘hot of the press’ results and finds from the season. Or you can visit the trench under your own steam and follow our trail. Across the site we have lots of displays from many of our team, including our human remains team and those working with one of countries the largest collections of daub. We also have experimental archaeologists who are recreating a range of ancient crafts.

For the kids we have lots of activities on offer all for free. We have a craft table with examples of pots, and clay for kids to make their own to take home. They can have a go at being an archaeologist with our dissecting ancient poo exercise or perhaps just enjoy an afternoon in our kids trench which is full of finds waiting to be found (with an archaeologist on hand to answer any questions). We also have our always popular mini battles where Boudica encourages your little ones to battle (armed with foam swords) a Roman from the frontlines.
If that was not enough there are also lots of games on offer, including tombola for the kids and a huge raffle stuffed full of prizes (including tickets to various local attractions, vouchers for tattoo parlours or paranormal activities, and a variety of other goodies). As such this year’s raffle promises to be even bigger and better than last year so do make sure you purchase your raffle tickets. Tickets will be on sale at the start of the season from either Ann in the Finds Hut or Terry in Info Hut and on the Festival Day itself, Sunday 20th July. With our exciting new season fast approaching can we ask you to perhaps consider donating something, large or small, for either our raffle or the tombola table. All donations of prizes are very greatly received so please look out for that unwanted Christmas gift and bring it along before the day. Many, many thanks :)

While we don’t charge entry for our Festival, it is a major fundraiser for SHARP, and every donation really does help us continue to excavate and research the village of Sedgeford. Car parking is £3 per car to cover our expenses related to this on a nearby field. If you have mobility issues or have very young children do ask our volunteers at the track entrance to see whether there is space for you to park closer to the site.
We look forward to welcoming you all to Boneyard Field on Sunday 20th July 2025.
