SHARP's New Visitors Centre

It has been a busy year on site and if you have been keeping track of our blogs you will notice that there will be a big change in our visitor centre.
We started by stripping the container down to the frame, even replacing the floor vinyl, and over the last few months lots of building work has taken place.

Inside there is a consistent base with plenty of storage for various SHARP things including cupboards for health and safety materials, schools and festival supplies, leaflets and flyers and merchandise storage. This will allow us to de clutter the visitor centre and focus on the displays.
Several new display cases have been constructed, including a full-sized case for the skeleton we display each year. There will be four more cases for regular displays, with two specifically designed to be changed more often so that we can rotate our artefacts.
In addition to these we have several drawers which will allow us to display some of our other finds, such as Neil Faulkner's flint collection, our pottery, and other types of bulk and small finds. Nothing will stay in the visitor centre out of season so each case has been designed to make access easy for us, with locks to ensure everything is secure.
In addition to having more artefacts on display, we have created new poster displays for the centre and there will be a digital interactive system! So you can learn more about some of the SHARP sites and even have a go at some archaeology themed activities.
You will even find a space for local heritage groups to advertise their activities and we will have local history folders and books available to use while on site.
Don't worry, there will still be a shop with the essential tuck supplies for when you need that sugar rush. We are hoping to have a few more items in stock too, including a few new publications.
