About the event
The tragic loss of Neil Faulkner on 4th February was a huge loss to his family, friends, and colleagues. Neil’s ties to Sedgeford go back over 25 years, from when he founded SHARP and spent the following years excavating and researching within the parish; creating a fascinating story which spans almost five thousand years.
In addition to SHARP, Neil was also pivotal in numerous other projects including the Great Arab Revolt Project (GARP), various modern conflict archaeology projects in Italy and England and the Archaeology of Cinema Project. Besides his many research fields, he was editor of Current Archaeology and later, Military History Matters. He also published numerous books on archaeology, history, and politics.
Neil was not only a steadfast source of creativity, energy, and experience for all his many fields of work but also an inspiration and mentor to so many who came to know him.
The memorial meeting, taking place in the church where Neil gave so many engaging lectures, will include contributions from family members, along with friends and colleagues from the world of archaeology. There will also be an open mic for members of the audience to share their memories of Neil.
Following the meeting at the church, tea and refreshments will be available at SHARP’s excavation site at Boneyard Field.
Parking will be available on the day. Follow the signs to our excavation site and then follow the parking signs to a field which is a short walk from the church.
We hope you can come and share your memories of Neil with us on the 30th July.
