On this day...6th July

In 2001 archaeological proceedings were hampered on the Boneyard, not merely because of waterlogged trenches but because a local mother duck decided it was a jolly good place to teach the infants to swim!

No such problem with water up on Trench 23 in 2016. A new extension to the trench is started and work is carried out in earnest despite the sweltering heat.

Forward a year to 2017 and the ever-popular metallurgy course nears completion. The furnace has been built and the smelting process is creating flames of the most amazing colours and beauty.

Ellie wraps us all within the magical atmosphere as she retells the legend of Wayland the Smith. We do more than archaeology at Sedgeford!
